Rory in Okehampton

Rory McLeod was performing in a small restaurant in this country town so I decided to go with H and stay overnight to listen to him. We decided that the best way was to get the train to Exeter, followed by a fast bus to Okehampton, which worked well. The performance was up to his normal standards although the venue had its limitations. The B&B was ok. although we won't be going there again.
Topsham

Went to Exeter on the train, then decided to go a bit further along the estuary to Topsham on the small line that runs from Barnstaple to Exmouth. We had a lovely, very cheap lunch in 'Drakes', visited an ancient pub on the river and wandered through the village.
Alverton Manor

Took H to this lovely place in Truro for lunch as it was our wedding anniversary. The best meal we have had this year and a very good bottle of wine as well. The weather was fairly bad, steady rain all day and windy (the evening sailing was later cancelled). We went by bus for a change, to avoid the walk from the station. This turned out not to be a great idea, as the trip back was terrible, late, fairly slow and the engine seemed to be giving off fumes so that some people felt ill. H complained to the bus company when we eventually got back.
